At the heart of each ECNext powered e-commerce
site a robust set of "content management" technologies
and services supports the preparation, presentation, promotion,
sales and access control of e-content. This broad set of
capabilities includes:
Content
catalogs
Content
management and preparation tools
Access
control and rights management

Content catalogs provide our customer's
with means to describe and visually position information
products so that Web buyers are able to learn about, purchase
and access products that meet their needs. Catalogs typically
provide a "drill-down" capability with product
lists outlining summary product information and detail pages
providing detailed descriptions.
ECNext's solution provides a range of catalog
options supporting sales of a variety of information products.
(Our commerce sites support both subscription and pay-per-view
content licensing, see the "E-commerce Transactions"
section for details.)
Document Catalog
The document catalog type supports the sale of static, pre-formatted
documents and a wide variety of other digital files. One
notable feature is the support for fractional documents
sales, enabling publishers to increase sales by breaking
documents and selling them by the sections, chapter or even
by the chart or table.
ECNext's document catalogs support the
following file formats:
HTML
PDF
MS
Word
MS
Exce
MS
PowerPoint
Other
digital files
Orders
only (offline delivery of)
Database Catalogs
The database catalog type supports the presentation and
sale of reports and data generated dynamically from a database
query. The primary user interface for the "catalog"
is one or more query screens that enable the end-user to
configure search parameters.
Custom Catalogs
Though our standard catalogs will meet most e-content sales
needs, when required, ECNext will develop custom catalogs
to meet additional needs.

ECNext provides two content management
capabilities for meeting a diverse range of needs.
Publishing Tool
ECNext's Publishing Tool is a Web browser based tool that
enables the customer's staff to update and maintain site
by simply entering information into browser based forms.
The tool enables production staff to perform real-time site
maintenance, including:
Adding
products to the catalog
Removing
products from the catalog
Authoring
product description
Setting
product price
Defining
product promotions
In addition, the Publishing Tool supports workflow, enabling
customers to include editorial review and approval stages
as part of their e-commerce site maintenance process.
Batch Publishing System
ECNext's batch publishing system is an automated process
for receiving a scheduled source data feed from a customer,
converting the data to the required format and then updating
the customer's Web catalog.
A batch process is configured to meet each
customer's requirements.

In addition to providing means for presenting
information products to Web buyers, our solution also secures
access to the publisher’s valuable digital property
and only legitimate customers able to gain access to products
they have purchased. Site users can be divided into 3 classes
for purposes of access control:
Unknown
visitors – access to open site areas only.
Registered
visitors – access to some free content (if applicable).
Customers
– access to appropriate purchased content.
User Authentication
Access to products or areas with controlled access requires
the user to register. Each user is then authenticated in
order to gain access to products they have licensed.
My Content
The My Content area provides
a convenient location where Web customers can view and/or
download their licensed products.
